This article is called “These 11 Misconceptions Are Not Actually Sins.” I found this article on “Past Chronicle,” and it is written by “Beth Moreton.” I am going to list the 11 things that she calls misconceptions. In what she says, I find a lot of personal opinions from various sources. Unfortunately, what she list are not Biblical Sources and shows her Political Correctness. The movement today is to do away with any and all Biblical (especially regarding the words),”SIN” and the real authority/”GOD.”
I truly find it ironic how she cherry picked her list of her 11 misconceptions. I mean after all we are all super progressives who have moved on and adapted to anything goes and nothing is a sin. Understand in the new progressive world, anything and everything is a human right. So, let’s go see what Mrs. Beth has to say. “In the Bible, it reveals a list of sins that Christians are supposed to stay away from and not commit, so as not to disappoint God. However, it appears some of the sins that have been labeled as such in the Bible aren’t sins and are fine for Christians and people of other religions and beliefs to do.”
1. Drinking Alcohol. Some Christians view those who drink alcohol as being sinful, but as: (Source: Knowing Jesus Ministries) points out, Jesus drank wine. So, drinking alcohol is okay, as long as it is done in moderation. The Bible views drinking alcohol as a blessing, but it views drunkenness as a sin.
2. Dancing. Many views dancing as harmless and up until now, some people have claimed the Bible views dancing as a sin. But that isn’t the case. Source: (Grand Canyon University), has said people can use dancing as a way to glorify God and therefore should not be ashamed of doing so.
3. Having Doubts About Christianity. Having doubts in all areas of life, whether that’s with your job, relationship, or friendships, is perfectly normal, but there are differing opinions on whether doubt is a sin. Source: (The Bible For Normal People), has stated that different Bible teachers have varying opinions on doubt. However, for the most part, doubting your faith is a normal thing to happen.
4. Having Strong Emotions. We all have different emotions that range from happy to sad and everything in between, but many believed the Bible once said, that having strong emotions of any kind was a sin. Source: (The Compelling Truth) states that while having strong emotions isn’t a sin, it suggests that Christians should manage their emotions, such as not acting out in anger.
5. The Billy Graham Rule. The Billy Graham Rule was started by the evangelist of the same name, who decided he would never be alone with a woman who wasn’t his wife, which led to many others taking on this rule themselves, according to the Billy Graham Evangelist Association. But with women now being a prominent force in the workplace, this rule is a lot harder to follow. As it is not in the Bible, it cannot be considered a sin.
6. Skipping Church. With fewer people attending church nowadays, some Christians might be worried that if they skip Sunday service or mass, they are sinning. However, Source: (the Liberty Gospel Tracts) states this is nothing to be ashamed of as there are many reasons why someone might have to skip church. Therefore, they shouldn’t feel they are letting God down or sinning by doing so.
7. Tattoos. Most people with tattoos have more than likely experienced an older relative or person they work with shaming them for having tattoos, which possibly comes from a saying in the Bible. Huff Post states in Leviticus 19:28 it says, “You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you.” However, many people who attend church have tattoos and as long as you’re a good person, it is believed that having tattoos is no longer a sin.
8. Playing Sports on a Sunday. According to the Bible, Sunday is supposed to be a day of rest, and playing sports of any kind is hardly a way for anyone to rest. However, with people at work and school on weekdays, for most people, that only leaves the weekend to do the activities they enjoy, including playing sports. Source: (Christians In Sport), states that people are free to enjoy sport on a Sunday if they like and others shouldn’t judge them for it.
9. Taking Contraception. As many may be engaging in sexual intercourse at a time when they’re not ready to have children for whatever reason, most will take or use some form of contraception to prevent pregnancy. Source: (Got Questions) points out that in the Bible, Onan commits a sin in using withdrawal, which is the oldest form of birth control. The sin wasn’t the fact he had used birth control, but that he had committed the sin of selfishness by withdrawing so as not to share his inheritance. Therefore, contraception itself is not a sin. (I GUESS ABORTION IS JUST HEATH CARE ALSO-HUMMMMM)
10. Swearing. Many people swear these days, but some Christians will often tell you not to swear as it is considered a sin. However, according to Source: (Medium), swearing is only a sin if it is used to belittle, attack, or demean someone. So, if you are swearing because you have stubbed your toe, that is perfectly acceptable in the eyes of the Lord. (L O L–HOW STUPID).
11. Disagreeing With the Pastor. As the pastor is the leader of the church you attend, you might find yourself feeling conflicted if, during one of the sermons, you disagree. But do not worry, as disagreeing with the pastor is normal, according to Source: (Lifeway Church). Everyone has differing opinions and isn’t going to see eye to eye on everything. So, as long as your disagreements can be understood, you are not sinning.
CONCLUSION
I have a few problems with 11 Misconceptions of the Bible that are not actually sins. I looked diligently for just 1 scriptural verse from the Bible as documentation in her article but could not find any. I did find a lot of conjecture. Then you have various worldly sources interpreting what is and what is not sin. (MANS OPINION), based on modern day society. I think the pictures I posted here are self-explanatory.
I really wanted to be fair in my article, so I did a search of Past Chronicles and here is what they state? ” Past Chronicles is your ultimate destination for history and mysteries.” In all honesty I was not impressed, but I am sure they would not be impressed with my site either. I did finally find Beth Moreton and here is what they had to say. “Beth started working as a freelance writer in 2021 and has had her work published on multiple websites and focuses on a variety of niches. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, listening to music, and spending time with her friends and family.”
I Corinthians 10:31 “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” I learned this verse years ago and it became a standard for me. Can you do what you do for the Glory of God? Years ago, there was a world-famous stripper who claimed she got saved and become a Christian. Now she proclaimed, “I AM NOW GOING TO STRIP FOR THE LORD.” I checked my Bible well, and never found that gift in any list of Spiritual Gifts.
Pope Francis stated that God gave him permission to change one of the Ten Commandments. Of course, the one the Pope changed was the one about idol worship, and statues.Bishop T.D. Jakes, stood on stage at his Megachurch, called his wife down to the bottom, then announced to the congregation, how his wife could still “TWERK FOR THE LORD.” Then said Give God the Praise. The people stood up and gave his wife a standing ovation. Then a new Christian named Kayne West, started his own church (a Novice), then had another mental breakdown. He ruined himself. Is he still in the mental hospital? Do you see anything wrong with this? Malachi 3:6 “For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.”
We live in a new totally complete world than the one I grew up in. Yes, everything has been flipped upside down. MORALITY IS NOW WRONG AND IMMORALITY IS RIGHT AND TOTALLY ACCEPTABLE, even in so-called Churches. THAT IS THE NEW WORLDS STANDARD. I chose not to address the 11 so-called misconceptions, about sins, individually, even though I wanted too. I could have answered each one with many scriptures.
ANYTHING CAN BE USED OR ABUSED. NOT JUST THE 11. THEN THEY CAN ALSO BECOME ADDICTIONS. EVEN OVEREATING. SOME THINGS ARE LEGAL AND SOME ILLEGAL. EXAMPLE: LEGAL DRUGS AND ILLEGAL DRUGS. The list goes on and on. And that also includes what you choose to believe. Satan is the master of Deception, even in Religions.
Repeatedly the Bible tells us “DO NOT BE DECIEVED.” Deception has always been Satan’s greatest tool he has used, ever since the Garden of Eden. Just look around today and you will see it. Individuals now become their own gods or creates the god they want or will accept, and it is not the God of the Bible. Then others will go find themselves a false religion that will just make them feel good. Especially one that does not deal with the sin issues. Here is the truth of what Sin truly does to us, IT KILLS US.
Romans 3:23 shows us where we all fail. “Forall have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Sin is a killer; this is why we all die.? As I stated above sin separate us from and Holy God. Jesus paid for our sins and bought and brought us back into relationship and fellowship with God. This is our salvation and restoration back to God. You can have that right now.
II Corinthians 5:21 “For he (GOD) hath made him (JESUS) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” Jesus became our substitute, took our place on the cross and paid for our sins. That is the gospel message and the gospel truth.
Will you turn from yourself and turn to God for forgiveness and Salvation? Will you put your faith and trust in Jesus for Eternal Salvation? Will you bow your heart and call upon God. Romans 10:13 says, “For who so ever shall call (ASK) upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” I promise you on the authority of God’s word, that he will save you, forgive you and make you, His child. HE IS THE SUPREME AUTHORITY WHO POSSESSES ALL POWER.
Dear Reader, you have free will and you choose who you will follow. Your choice has eternal consequences. You will choose either Jesus or Satan, that is truly your only 2 choices. Who will you choose, who will you follow. In 1975 I decided to follow Jesus. And for the last 40 years I have never regrated it.
If you have prayed and received God’s forgiveness for sin, please let me know in the comment section at the bottom so I can rejoice with you. Also, your thoughts, opinions and comments are welcome so leave them also in the comment section at the bottom. Now please enjoy this beautiful song. RAY
